Well it looks like summer is definitely coming - as are a heap of concerts and performances! It’s been a nice spring so far with some wonderful concerts. In March I launched a new programme of Schumann: a collaboration with my very own husband, Robert Davies. ‘Schumannilieben und leben’ told the story of Robert and Clara, through their music, letters and poems, and we gave the first performance in Galeri Caernarfon, accompanied by the inimitable John Reid. What a fab programme to get to do as a couple - although obviously I’m hoping our relationship doesn’t go the way of the Schumanns’...
April saw me enjoying, if that’s the right word, John Passions - in Smith Square, London and in De Singel in Antwerp, alongside Polyphony and the OAE. I started out my singing days in the choir singing for Stephen Layton, so being ‘out front’ as a soloist for him for these concerts was a real thrill. Although I secretly really miss singing all the choruses! And May has kicked off wonderfully in fabulous Crickhowell. I’m a big devotee of this festival and this was my third visit. The whole weekend is dedicated to music of the baroque and classical era and is always jam-packed with thrilling repertoire, much of it relatively unknown. It’s a great way to spend a happy Bank Holiday weekend.
So now I gird my loins for the busy time ahead: Cardiff, Beverley, London, Thaxted, Warwick, Norwich and Oxford all in the next eight weeks, singing brand new music (Patrick Hawes), twentieth century music (Grace Williams, John Tavener), well-loved music in a new staging (Bach motets) and deeply-loved music sitting down (lute recital with David Miller)! Then roll on festival season: and hello Endellion!
